Feeling anxious is completely normal. We offer a range of sedation options so you can have your wisdom teeth removed in comfort — suited to your clinical needs and how you feel about the procedure.
Book Free ConsultationDental anxiety is one of the most common reasons people delay wisdom tooth treatment — often until the situation becomes more serious. Our sedation options are designed to remove that barrier, so you can receive the care you need in a way that feels manageable and safe.
At your consultation, your dentist will discuss which sedation approach is most appropriate for your clinical situation, the complexity of your extractions, and your personal preferences.
All sedation procedures are administered and monitored by our dentists in compliance with relevant Australian standards and regulations.
Your dentist will recommend the most appropriate option based on your clinical assessment, procedure complexity, and medical history.
A local anaesthetic injection numbs the area around the wisdom tooth so you should not feel pain during the extraction. You remain fully awake and aware throughout the procedure.
You may feel pressure and movement, but should not feel pain. Tell your dentist immediately if you experience discomfort.
Also known as "twilight sleep," this form of intravenous sedation induces a deeply relaxed, drowsy state. You remain conscious and can respond to the dentist, but most patients have little to no memory of the procedure afterwards.
Twilight sedation is also recommended for complex extractions where a higher level of patient comfort and stillness assists the procedure.
For significantly impacted or complex cases — or for patients with severe dental anxiety — a higher level of IV sedation may be considered. This ensures complete comfort for the duration of the procedure.
Your dentist will advise whether this option is clinically appropriate at your consultation. Additional costs may apply. A personalised quote will be provided.
If you are having twilight or IV sedation, please follow these instructions carefully to ensure your safety.
You must not eat or drink anything (including water) for at least 8 hours before your appointment. This is a strict safety requirement for all IV sedation procedures.
You must arrange for a responsible adult to collect you from the clinic and take you home. You cannot drive or use public transport unaccompanied after sedation.
Inform your dentist of all current medications, supplements, and medical conditions at your consultation. Some medications may need to be paused or adjusted prior to sedation.
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing with short or easily rolled-up sleeves to allow IV access. Avoid nail polish on your fingers, as this can interfere with monitoring equipment.
If you have questions or concerns about sedation — including medical conditions, medications, or previous anaesthetic reactions — please raise these at your consultation. Your treating dentist will review your history and advise accordingly. Call us on 08 9020 7035 if you need to speak with us before your appointment.
